Unwed' mum and 6-month old baby deported in marriage row

A maid is to be deported with her six-month-old baby after she failed to show marriage documents to prosecutors.
The Filipina appeared before an Abu Dhabi prosecutor on Wednesday with her baby in her arms. The woman insisted  that she is married in the Philippines and didn’t know she had to prove her marriage when she arrived in the UAE.

She has spent the past month in jail and was trying to having her documents sent to prosecutors, she said.
The woman is charged with having unlawful sex, a claim she strongly denied. She said that she was two months’ pregnant when she arrived in the UAE and simply didn’t have her marriage documents with her.
However, on Wednesday she agreed to be sent back to the Philippines with her daughter. She will likely spend another week to two weeks in custody before being sent home, according to a source close to the case.
Prosecutors are allowing her to keep her baby because she likely conceived outside the country. In most unlawful sex cases, the woman is deported and the baby given Emirati citizenship and placed in an orphanage. The mother said she was looking forward to going home and said she had tried to get her marriage documents through the Filipino embassy.
“I am married in the Philippines. I didn’t have my documents and I go to police, the embassy, different things. Anyway, I will go home,” she said.
