Woman Steals Check To Pay Rent

 

A New Jersey woman turned an online date with a Staten Island man into theft at first sight, when she stole a blank check from his house to pay $4,000 in back rent, authorities allege. Tonia Dolison, 46, met her 62-year-old victim on an online dating site, and the two went on a dinner date last month, according to a law enforcement source. The date went well, so she joined him in his New Springville home for drinks, movies and an overnight stay, the source said. At one point, though, she spotted a checkbook on a table and swiped a check, police allege, and right after he took her back home, she took advantage.

 Ms. Dolison admitted what she did to police, according to court papers: “I noticed he had a blank check on the table so I just grab the first check from the book. I then made the check out to my landlord and gave it to him. I did it because I was about to be locked out of the apartment. I signed and made out the check.” Police arrested Ms. Dolison on Tuesday, charging her with third- and fourth-degree grand larceny, second-degree forgery and second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, according to information from District Attorney Daniel Donovan’s office. Did she really think he wouldn’t notice the $4,000 being deducting from his account?
