COUPLE FINDS N150M UNDER A TREE

A middle-aged husband and wife discovered 1,427 rare, mint condition gold coins worth $10 million (£6 million) while walking their dog in their rural property.

The coins, found under an old tree, date from between 1847 and 1894, and are "uncirculated" and in "mint condition" according to David Hall, co-founder of Professional Coin Grading Service of Santa Ana, which authenticated the trove.

While the face value of the coins is only around $27,000 (£16,200), some of the hoard are so rare that they could fetch nearly $1 million (£600,000) apiece at auction according to NBC News

The couple have tried to keep their anonymous to prevent a modern-day gold rush.
