Washington Post reports that some relatives said that they were getting ring tones and could see them active online through a Chinese instant messenger service called QQ.
One man in particular claimed he could see that the QQ account of his brother-in-law showed him as online, but when he sends a message, he gets no reply. The calls have also not been picked up. This is scary!
