A California teenager may have been dealt the worst case of karma of 2013 after he was struck by a bullet that bounced off of the person he was attempting to rob and hit him instead.

Police in San Francisco say a teen robbery suspect was accidentally killed by his alleged accomplice when a bullet from the latter’s gun struck the former after ricocheting off their victim’s face. Authorities say 16-year-old Clifton Chatman was among a group of muggers who surrounded the unnamed victim on the night of December 14 and demanded his cellphone. One of the robbers pulled out a handgun while the others went through the victim’s belongings in search of other valuables.

Saudi 'mutawa' warn against New Year celebration

 

Saudi Arabia's religious police has warned against celebrating New Year's Eve in the ultra-conservative Gulf kingdom, the local Okaz daily reported.

The Commission of the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, known unofficially as mutawa, based its warning on a religious edict from the top committee of Saudi clerics banning such celebrations, the newspaper said on Sunday.
The Commission also warned Saudi gift shops not to sell any merchandise, including flowers and dolls.

Iyetade Soyinka, a daughter of Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka, has died. Ms. Soyinka, who was born June 6, 1965, died at the University of Ibadan Teaching Hospital where she was being treated for an undisclosed ailment.
