VK, 54, an Indian expatriate businessman, saw a burglar in a prostrate position in his room when he woke up at 3am to go to the toilet and tried to catch him but the intruder jumped out of the window and fled.
BA, 20, an unemployed Nigerian, admitted to burglary and told investigators that he climbed the fence of the building and a tree to reach the window which was not firmly closed and got into the victim’s flat.
“I jumped on him but he resisted strongly and pushed me to the ground and rushed towards the window and jumped. Checking for missing items, I found out that he had taken Dh1850, $100 and Indian rupees2,500 and two watches,” the victim testified.
The accused admitted that he had bent down to the floor to avoid being seen by the resident of the house who had woken up. However, he admitted to stealing only Dh100 from the victim’s wallet.
The accused is facing theft and assault charges and the Court will give its verdict on October 27.
