Residents of Oke-Ayepe, Onward Estate in Osogbo Local Government Area
of Osun State were on Wednesday thrown into mourning when a 75-year-old
grandfather, Pa. Adisa Hassan, committed suicide inside the storeroom
of his house.
Popularly known as ‘Baba Tawa’, Pa. Hassan, who operated three buses for his inter-city transport business, was said to have hung himself in a store room around 5am on Wednesday, days after officials of the Vehicle Inspection Officials (VIO) seized two of his three shuttle buses.
Eye witnesses account revealed that Pa Hassan had woke up alongside his family members around 5am in order to observe their usual morning prayer (Subhi) but changed his mind on his way to the mosque situated directly opposite his house and went into his store room and took his life.
When our correspondent visited the scene of the ugly incident around 7am on Wednesday, family members and residents of the area were seen wailing even as some of the associates of Pa. Hassan were discussing the mystery surrounding the tragedy.
Also, a team of officers from the Disaster and Emergency Management Unit of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were drafted to the scene of the incident to maintain orderliness.
Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of NSCDC, Mr. Ayo Olowe, revealed that a resident of the area had hinted officers at the Command, which is a stone-throw to the residence of Pa. Hassan before a team of officers was drafted to the area.
But as at the time of filing this report, the corpse of late Hassan was still dangling as no one was allowed to enter into the room where the ugly incident took place.
