When London-trained Nigerian designer, Emmy Collins, began his now popular blog, Diary by Emmy, in May this year, he intended to use it to vent his frustration over the state of Nigeria’s creative and fashion industry.
However, in less than a month of his
running it, the blog caused a stir in the entertainment scene after he
dared to criticise the general appearance and quality of works of the
likes of Nollwyood actress, Annie Idibia and singer Tiwa Savage. On
social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, the blogger is constantly a
trending topic as he is often attacked for daring to criticise many
celebrities on his blog.
He titled the posts dedicated to both personalities as the ‘Compilation
of Annie Idibia Macaulay’s many fashion atrocities’ and the ‘Story of
Nigeria’ and the ‘Karaoke Singer named, Tiwa Savage’, respectively.
More recently, he also took a swipe at
the fashion sense of the Kokomaster, Dbanj, and popular blogger, Linda
Ikeji, in a post titled ‘Most effective ways to insult your readers by Linda Ikeji.’
Months after, the light-skinned blogger
and fashion designer continued to critique a number of top Nigerian
stars as well as those he chooses to refer to as ‘red carpet whores.’
Love or hate him, Collins says he does not care and so no one is spared on his blog..
He says, “Everyone is obsessed with the
ambition of becoming a celebrity without possessing any ‘celebrity
quality’. In as much as we might want to sweep this under the carpet,
the facts are there for all to see.”
While Tiwa Savage, Ikeji and D’Banj have
not bothered to respond to Collins’ jabs, Annie, who responded in June,
only wrote him off as an attention seeker.
The wife of pop star 2face Idibia wrote,
“May God bless and make your blog famous one day. Guess that is what
you are trying to achieve. I feel your pain.
